This may sound painful, but it’s not – actually it’s very convenient. The Dublin Area Rapid Transit (DART) is Dublin city’s electrified train service and apart from being an easy and cost-effective way of getting around, it is also known for being punctual and very quick – particularly as it bypasses the busy Dublin traffic. It’s quite easy to imagine why the DART is used by over 80,000 passengers every day.
The number of stations in the city centre is admittedly rather limited but these include Lansdowne Road, the venue for Irish rugby and football international matches. The DART service also extends north all the way down to Howth and Malahide and south to Dún Laoghaire, Dalkey, and Bray. This allows for easy travelling when making excursions to the villages surrounding the city centre.
The DART operates from Monday to Saturday between 7am and 11:30pm, and on Sundays from 9:30am until 11:30pm. The fare depends on the distance to be travelled and day passes, family cards, and four-day passes are also available that cover both the DART as well as the busses. Timetables and maps would be available at the main stations and tourist information offices. For more information you can contact DART on 01-703-3504. The DART service is unavailable on Christmas Day and on the following day, St Stephen’s Day.
