Everyone knows about Dracula, the ferocious blood-sucking vampire count that terrorised London in the classic novel of the same name. What’s more, everyone also knows that Count Dracula used to live in a creepy castle in Transylvania. Therefore you may well ask; what does Dracula have to do with Dublin? The answer of course is that Bram Stoker, the author who wrote the book in 1897, was born and bred in Dublin. Therefore, in a way Dublin has every right to claim Dracula as its own.
The Bram Stoker Dracula Experience is an entertaining, educational, and occasionally quite terrifying adventure that’s centred on Bram Stoker’s life, Dracula, and all things terrifying. The tour takes visitors through a truly gruesome place that comes complete with cobwebs, bats, talking gargoyles, and walls that weep blood. Add to that a ghoulish torture chamber and you’ll find it increasingly difficult to forget your experience there. As you move through the Time Tunnel to Transylvania, through to Dracula’s Castle and onto the Blood Laboratory before finally getting to Dracula’s Lair, you will see enactments of the horrifying story of the count and his unfortunate victims. At the same time you will learn all about the fascinating life of Bram Stoker and how he created this spine-chilling creature that is immortal in more ways than one.
The entire experience takes place on Clontarf Road – close to where Bram Stoker was born and a short walk from the nearest DART station. The Dracula Experience is open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. It is also a great attraction for children so if you’re looking to keeping them entertained for a few hours, you would have found just the right place.
