A must in the itinerary of any Dublin tourist is the famous St James’s Gate Brewery – the home of Guinness since 1759. Leased for a period of 9000 years at an annual rate of ₤45, this is the largest brewery in Ireland and for awhile was also the largest in the world until someone inevitably built a bigger one.
However that’s no cause for concern as when it comes to world records, Guinness quite literally wrote the book about them – initially as one of its many wildly successful marketing campaigns.
The Guinness Storehouse boasts a fantastic tour that is sure to get you well-acquainted with the classic Irish brew. The seven floors of the renovated warehouse revolve around a central glass atrium – not dissimilar in appearance to a pint glass of gargantuan proportions.
As you make your way through the antique building, displays show you different aspects of the brewing process, past Guinness advertising campaigns, and a whole host of other Guinness-related information.
Among the variety of things you’ll learn are how to taste the different variants of Guinness, and how to pour a perfect pint.
Finally the Gravity Bar at the very top of the Guinness Storehouse affords one of the finest views of Dublin and there you can sit back and enjoy your complimentary pint – safe in the knowledge that you are now officially well-informed on all things Guinness.
