Every May bank holiday weekend the International Jazz Music Festival featuring leading names from Ireland and abroad fills the night sky with funky beats from the town of Bray. Since its inception in 2000, the Bray Jazz Festival has featured many an acclaimed international artist, such as the French/Vietnamese guitarist Nguyen Le, celebrated Chicago pianist and composer Andrew Hill, long-time James Brown collaborator Maceo Parker and his band, French accordionist Richard Galliano, and the Polish trumpeter Tomasz Stanko. Described as the festival for jazz connoisseurs, the programme is packed with some of the world’s most brilliant musical innovators.
With each year, the Bray Jazz Festival has attracted bigger names as it achieved record-breaking attendance levels.
During festival time the town becomes alive as events take place at various pubs, and enthusiastic crowds of jazz lovers all gather to celebrate this unique opportunity to listen to quality performers from widespread countries such as Senegal, Cuba, and Iceland in a time span of just a few days.
Tickets may be purchased online or at the door. Just 30km away from Dublin, Bray is within easy access to the city’s busses as well as the DART service. A special late-night bus service is also available following late concerts.
