The Major Toy and Train Collectors’ Fair in Dublin is a must-see for young and old alike. Here, the older generation is taken back to its youthful days, with toys, trains, comics and TV/Film annuals dating back to the forties. The younger generations, however, will still be astonished to learn that although video-games were unheard of at the time, their grandparents still had a lot of wonderful toys to play with and choose from.
Here, one can find diecast models by Corgi, Dinky; construction sets by Meccano, Bayko; Lead soldiers by Britains, Crescent; Trains by Hornby, Triang, Trix, Wrenn and Marklin. Also for sale will be antique dolls, furniture for dolls’ houses, comics TV and Film annuals from the 1940s - 1960s. Jigsaws, Teddy Bears and Beannie Babies! Books and Catalogues of all the famous manufacturers will be on sale too.
The next Dublin Toy and Train Fair is taking place on Sunday 12 September at the Clontarf Castle Hotel, Castle Avenue. Clontarf Castle Hotel is a large modern hotel which has a fine conference hall, a generous car park and full dining and bar facilities. Special rates are available for dealers wishing to stay there prior to or after the actual fair. Bus no. 130, from the city centre, direct to Clontarf Castle, and busses no. 103 and 104 also serve the local area .The hotel is 20 minutes walk from Killester and Clontarf Dart stations.
The Dublin Toy & Train Fair has seen an increase in the number of dealers as well as the number of tables in the past years. Dealers are now attending from as far away as Lithuania & the Czech Republic, and of course from closer to home, Ireland, England and Wales. With an ever-increasing variety of toys and trains to suit all tastes and all ages, the show now has up to 70 tables and most visitors are happy to browse around at their leisure in order to purchase those elusive toys which have enthralled them since their childhood days.
So even if you aren’t a toy enthusiast, a visit to this wonderful fair is a must, especially if you want to thrill your grannies by getting them a present which would remind them of their good old days!
