Visit Dublin’s Markets

Dublin is a bustling city with a very rich heritage.  In the past its streets would have been brimming with market stalls and vendors of all kinds.  Nowadays, the market culture is still very much alive and just about everything you could want is to be found in one of the city’s many well-established markets.

The Temple Bar district features three weekly markets that are very popular among tourists and residents alike. Every Saturday the Meeting House Square hosts the Temple Bar Food Market and offers the very best in fine cuisine, organic produce, and the freshest of ingredients.  These include fresh Atlantic oysters, organic vegetables, cheeses, chutneys, homemade bread and many more mouth watering food items.

Saturday also sees the Fashion and Design Market at Cow’s Lane. This market features clothes and fashion items from some of Ireland’s most trendy and promising designers.  A third Saturday market at the Temple Bar district caters specifically for book lovers with the Temple Bar Book Market promising some literary gems for you to unearth.

If you’re looking for a work of art or an antique centrepiece, the Blackrock Market in South Dublin’s Blackrock Village will provide you with some rare treats. Exquisite objects from the Victorian and Georgian periods can be found alongside Art Deco and Art Nouveau designs.

The shops number over fifty and they’re crammed with countless items of silver, gold, wood and porcelain, as well as paintings, sculptures, furniture, clothing, jewellery, and exotic spices. Michan Street in the heart of Dublin’s medieval district hosts the Smithfield Fish Market from Mondays to Saturdays.  Surrounded by the archaic architecture and the shouts of the street vendors, you’ll feel as if you have been transported back in time.

While you’re there you can also pick up a fresh fish for lunch. Dublin features many other markets and who knows, perhaps if you look hard enough you might just find that treasured item at a bargain price.
