Go Fishing

Many fishing enthusiasts go to Dublin with that purpose in mind and sea-fishing excursions can be organised in several places such as Dalkey, Dún Laoghaire, and Howth.  All of these places are easy to reach from central Dublin thanks to the DART service.  The east coast of Ireland is an angler’s paradise and will present fishermen with an abundance of game, pike, coarse and sea fishing venues.  The region also boasts several rivers that are ideal for salmon, sea-trout and brown trout fishing.

Apart from the river and sea, keen fishermen will also find a wealth of picturesque lakes around Dublin.  A fine example is Rathbeggan Lakes in County Meath which are a mere ten minute drive away from the Dublin M50 motorway.  These lakes provide a tranquil setting where one may indulge in a day of fly fishing for rainbow and brown trout.  Other popular fishing lakes close to Dublin are the Annamoe Trout Fishery 32km south of Dublin, Rathcon Fly Fishing Lake in County Wicklow, and Wavin Lake in County Dublin.  Anglers would be able to purchase day tickets at the lakes and fish away to their hearts’ content.

Dublin Tourism provides a booklet that carries information about fishing in rivers and lakes all around the city.  It is also worth noting that state licenses are required in order to fish for salmon or sea trout in any part of Ireland.  These may be ordered and paid for online.
