Whether you’re a dedicated film buff or simply enjoy a good movie, the Dublin Film Festival would be right up your street.
Established in 2003, it has since gained a solid reputation as one of the most important events for Irish cinema. The Dublin Film Festival runs for ten days in February and plays host to some of the world’s finest cinematic talent.
The festival takes place in Dublin’s city centre cinemas, namely Cineworld, the Savoy, Screen Cinema, the Irish Film Institute, and Movies@Dondrum.
If you keep your camera trained on the red carpet, you’ll be sure to collect some snapshots of celebrities as they attend their film’s Irish premiere.
Past cinema stars to be spotted at the Dublin Film Festival include Colin Farrell, Gabriel Byrne, Charlize Theron, and Daniel Day-Lewis. After watching a movie you could see what its stars have to say about it or better yet, you could hear what the critics think as they either praise it to high heaven or tear it to pieces.
Also, if have aspirations of forging a career in the film industry, why not attend a masterclass on directing or screenwriting and get a step closer to making your dream a reality?
Throughout the Dublin Film Festival, several outdoor venues will also be showing free screenings of historic, cultural, or artistic features.
Visitors at the festival can also have their say as every festival audience member will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite film. The most popular film will then receive the coveted Audience Award.
Other awards include the Volta Awards for career achievement and the Screenwriting Award for err… screenwriting. Tickets may be booked online, over the phone, or in person. For more information visit www.dubliniff.com
