Do Some Serious Shopping

If you’re the type of person who likes to go abroad to catch up with your shopping, then Dublin will provide you with many opportunities to stock up on your wardrobe and shoe closet.

Dublin has two main shopping arteries – one on either side of the river Liffey.  Although both streets are pedestrianised and only a few minutes walk apart from one another, they’re also different from each other in several ways.

Grafton Street on the South side of the river is located between Trinity College and St Stephen’s Green.  As a shopping area, Grafton Street is regarded as somewhat smarter and more fashionable than its northern counterpart.  Outlets include the painfully stylish Brown Thomas, the department store that showcases several designer brands, as well as Wiers, Ireland’s leading jewellers, and the most famous outlet of the Bewley’s Café chain.

Nearby shopping streets include Wicklow Street, Dawson Street, and South Great Georges Street.  The Powerscourt Towncentre close by is one of the most beautiful shopping centres in the city and the Georges Street Arcade houses an indoor market.  The shopping crowds are frequently entertained by buskers including musicians, poets, and mime artists.

To the North of the River Liffey is Henry Street which runs from the Spire of Dublin and O’Connell Street: Dublin’s main thoroughfare.  Henry Street contains several large department stores as well as clothing and footwear outlets.  The Jervis Shopping Centre is very comprehensive and includes many British chains while the Ilac Shopping Centre contains many lower budget shops.  The outdoor food market of Moore Street will also allow you to sample same local delicacies at bargain prices.

At one point, Henry Street becomes Mary Street, and the two streets are frequently regarded as one and the same.
