If you need to catch a taxi you will find that they abound in good supply in Dublin. However they are not normally stopped in the street and you’ll usually find them waiting for fares at taxi stands near hotels, train and bus stations, and central spots such as Trinity College and O’Connell Street.
Taxis can also be telephoned and any telephone directory in Dublin would list numerous companies. Some of the main companies are; Access Metro Cabs (Tel: 01 668 3333), A to B Cabs (Tel: 01 677 2222), Castle Cabs (Tel: 01 831 9000), Checkers Cabs (Tel: 01 834 3434), City Cabs (Tel: 01 873 1122), Pony Cabs (Tel: 01 661 2233), and Speed Cabs (Tel: 01 475 0800).
Although Dublin taxis are usually to be found in plentiful supply, they can become quite a commodity on Friday and Saturday nights or when there is a big event going on. In such cases it would also be very difficult to be able to ring cab companies so it’s always best to book ahead.
Although taxi fares are fixed by law and are metered, however trips can take quite long if you get caught up in busy traffic and therefore the trip will also be more expensive during peak traffic periods.
Unfortunately, such periods make up pretty much most of the day. Taxis that travel to and from the airport would also incorporate an extra charge.
