Buy Irish Arts and Crafts

The Irish are quite proud of their crafts and many houses are decorated with a multitude of quaint little examples of folk art.  Buying a few of pieces for yourself might be one of the best ways of taking a little piece of Ireland back home with you.  Also, goods and crafts tend to be a great help when you’re looking for innovative gift ideas.
Best of all, a decorative work in your house will serve as an ideal conversation piece.  Whenever a guest points it out you can casually reply that it’s just a little something you picked up in Dublin – before deftly slipping into a monologue about your visit that is bound to leave your hapless guest green with envy and looking at your example of Irish craft with a sense of newfound hostility.

Wolfe Tone Park hosts a fair every Saturday between 10am and 6pm.  Dedicated to Irish Arts and Crafts, all the works on sale would have been individually handcrafted by the stallholders. Such crafts include ceramics, stained glass, paintings, drawings, photography, etchings, candle-making, pottery, textile art, leather work, and woodturning. Wolfe Tone Park also hosts a Gourmet Food Market every Friday from 10m till 4pm where a wide variety of exotic ingredients and homemade delicacies can be sampled.

The Designer Market at the Temple Bar’s Cow Lane radiates artistic inspiration every Saturday from 10am until 5pm.  Apart from featuring a large number of achingly trendy fashion items, Cow Lane also offers a uniquely imaginative variety of such craft items as hats, bags, furniture, jewellery, children’s clothing and textile toys.

If you’re looking to pick up something rather more bulky, the Temple Bar Craft and Furniture Market is the place for you.  Every Sunday between noon and 6pm, this innovative market graces the Meeting House Square with fine handmade furniture and creative designs.
