Wherever you may travel around the world, you’ll be hard-pressed to find people who are friendlier and more genuine than the Irish. Although one must always be wary of stereotypes, a vast number of Irish people are natural comedians – whether intentionally or not – and you’ll be in for a great time listening to their anecdotes and jokes. The vast majority of the locals would be very approachable – especially in the proper circumstances. If you get talking to a group of people in a pub and express your generosity by buying a couple of rounds, you’d not only be in for a fantastic evening but also (thanks to the internet and social networking websites) for a good chance of acquiring some life-long friends.
Many Irish people of any age would be very open to conversation and within a few minutes of getting acquainted, you will be bombarded with a barrage of information and before long you’ll know just about all there is to know about their passions, family, and annoying next-door neighbour. Ireland is also one of the best places to get lost in as the locals are typically very friendly and helpful with anyone asking for directions. Whether you are in Dublin or on some lonely country road, the people would be happy to direct you on your way.
Apart from the locals, at any point in the year Dublin will also be swarming with other tourists just like you. The joyous atmosphere combined with the abundance of quality alcohol will ensure that everyone will be in high spirits and in an ideal mood to make friends. A word of caution however: telling Irish jokes in Dublin or anywhere else in Ireland for that matter may not exactly get you lynched but it’s not going to make you very popular with the locals either.
