Dublin contains a great many cinemas that you can visit.  Some, like the seven-screen Ormonde Cinema, have been around since the 1950s, while others are brand new. It might sound crazy – but sometimes it may happen that you get a sudden hankering to hit the cinema.

It could also turn out that the new Angelina Jolie film that you’ve been dying to see has come out at the exact time that you happen to be on holiday.  What do you do in such cases?

Miss it and allow your friends to ruin it for you when you get back home?  Of course not – you hit the cinema. All cinemas in Dublin are equipped with the very latest in projection and sound technology.

The oldest remaining cinema is the Savoy and it also features one of the biggest screens in Ireland. The vast majority of cinemas will be showing the latest films to emerge from Hollywood whereas a few of the smaller venues, such as the Light House Cinema, focus on art house productions.

However, if your passion for film goes beyond a mere trip to the cinema every so often, you may be interested in visiting Dublin during the Dublin Film Festival, which takes place annually every February.
